As most of my friends and family will know, the dolphin has left me and gone to a better place

The accident happened on Thursday 29 January on the way to Cape Town between Robertson and Worcester when a speaker stand flew off the trailer in front of me (the one with my “trek” on), I braked, swerved, lost control of the car and ended up on the side of the road with a wreck; but that is not what this post is about.

This post is dedicated to everyone involved in what ensued after the crash …

1. I phoned my insurance broker Indwe Risk Services in George
2. My call is transferred to Francis van Dyk who took over from there
3. They arranged with a panel beater in Worcester – Worcester Bakwerke who arranged for the recovery vehicle from JR Towing
4. About an hour later we’re on our way again with all my goods loaded onto/into the vehicle and trailer with the rest of my stuff
5. Meanwhile Francis was sending me all the necessary paperwork for the claim etc.
6. I only managed to get set up in my new place by the following Monday and sent through all the paperwork
7. I receive notification that the assessor has seen the vehicle and advised it be written off and also receive an agreement of loss – all within a week of submitting a claim form
8. The vehicle was insured by Zurich Financial Services and they settled the claim within days after the signing of the agreement of loss – no hassle, no fuss, no silly deductions (just the excess obviously) … I was paid out the full insured value of my vehicle

Now I have heard some scary tales in my time about insurance companies, but thankfully I can say that this experience has completely blown my mind. All the individuals that I dealt with during this ordeal have been super efficient, friendly and professional.

I cannot finish off this post without a big thank you to all my friends for their support – most notably stii for lending me a vehicle (well two actually) while I was waiting on finance for a new car and the insurance to do their thing … you all ROCK!!!
